We believe there is, and always has been, a strong business case for corporate responsibility related to our environment.

Exel's business units, suppliers, and partners all impact the environment, primarily through energy consumed in the transportation of customers' goods, along with related vehicle emissions. Other impacts include energy consumed in facilities (through use of air-conditioning and refrigeration systems, for example), waste generation, and water use.

That's why energy conservation and recycling are key areas of focus for Exel's early sustainability research. Working with customers, suppliers and associates around the world, we're using feasibility studies and pilot programs to better understand the potential value of various efforts.

Consistent with the disciplined process and project management approach we employ with customer solutions, Exel teams are focusing on environmental management processes and systems. This structure will provide a framework to implement our environmental policy and objectives in the future.

DHL Supply Chain has formed a new global team aimed at assessing the CO₂ footprint of our operations. The goal is to reduce CO2 emissions where possible, recommending and supplying replacement technology and equipment, and offering additional services to neutralize remaining emissions through offset programs. Customer solutions in development include carbon-supply chain consultancy, emission reduction plans, and carbon action plans.
